Mac Studio Ultra Performance Test Suite

A comprehensive performance testing script for Mac Studio Ultra servers in China, designed to benchmark CPU, GPU, Memory, Disk I/O, and Network performance.

Features

  • CPU Performance: Tests single-core and multi-core performance, prime number calculations
  • Memory Performance: Tests memory bandwidth and allocation speed
  • Disk I/O Performance: Tests sequential and random read/write operations
  • GPU Performance: Tests Metal framework and GPU compute capabilities
  • Network Performance: Tests DNS resolution speed, connectivity and download speeds
  • Thermal Monitoring: Monitors temperature during stress tests
  • System Information: Collects detailed system specifications
  • Comprehensive Logging: Saves all results to timestamped files

Prerequisites

The script will automatically install required tools if not found:

  • bc (basic calculator)
  • sysbench (for advanced disk I/O tests)
  • speedtest-cli (for network speed tests)
  • python3 (for various calculations)

Usage

Run the Performance Test

# Execute the full performance test suite
./performance-test.sh

Results

  • Results are saved to ~/performance_results/ directory
  • Each test run creates a timestamped file: performance_test_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.txt
  • Results include detailed metrics and system information

Example Output

./performance-test.sh

This will run all performance tests and save the results to a file in the ~/performance_results/ directory.

What Each Test Does

  1. System Information: Collects hardware and OS information
  2. CPU Performance: Tests processing power with single and multi-core workloads
  3. Memory Performance: Tests memory bandwidth and allocation speed
  4. Disk I/O Performance: Tests storage read/write speeds
  5. GPU Performance: Tests graphics processing capabilities
  6. Network Performance: Tests DNS resolution speed, connectivity and download speeds
    • Tests DNS resolution speed for multiple DNS servers (domestic and international)
    • Tests connectivity to common domestic IPs
    • Tests download speeds from domestic and international locations
    • Tests network latency
  7. Thermal Performance: Monitors system temperature during stress

Customization

You can modify the script to adjust:

  • Test durations
  • File sizes for disk tests
  • Number of iterations for stress tests
  • Specific benchmarks to run

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues:

  1. Ensure you have the latest version of macOS
  2. Make sure Xcode command line tools are installed: xcode-select --install
  3. Update Homebrew: brew update
  4. Check available disk space (at least 2GB free recommended)

Notes

  • The script creates temporary files during testing which are automatically cleaned up
  • Some tests may take several minutes to complete
  • The system may become warm during intensive tests, which is normal
  • Results will vary based on current system load and thermal conditions

DNS Optimization

After running the performance test, you may want to optimize your DNS settings based on the results. Use the DNS configuration tool to set up optimal DNS servers for your location:

# Test DNS performance
./dns-config.sh test

# Set up optimal DNS configuration
./dns-config.sh setup

# View current DNS settings
./dns-config.sh current

The performance test will help you identify which DNS servers work best in your network environment, and the DNS configuration tool will help you set them up.
